  Church Participation

How Important Is It?

At the 2008 & 2009 Northwest Regional Men's Conference, we asked men,
"WHAT CAUSED YOU TO COME TO THIS EVENT?"

Their response may or may not surprise you: 57.3% of the men indicated
it was a Church Announcement, their Pastor or a combination of both.

(Percentage based on feedback from the event evaluation form)

Participation Options

To ensure the success of this regional event for the men and families in our communities, we are simply asking churches to consider committing to do one or more of the following:

1. Promote the Event
2. Follow-up Bible Studies
3. Invest Financially
4. Be Represented on the Conference Steering Team
5. Volunteer to help at the Conference

Promote This Event Within Your Church

Our hope and prayer is that every church in the Greater Portland area will be able to take advantage of this great training opportunity to build up the men of their church, as well as their own Men's Ministry, as God would have us do.
If you already have a strong, substantial Men's Group at your church, praise God!  We simply and humbly encourage you to explore how this opportunity might supplement your efforts and mission by letting your guys rub shoulders with fellow believers from other parts of the body in our area. (Even if you just came off of or are ramping up for a big guy's get-away retreat somewhere, ask God how this might help prepare your men to live out what they heard and experienced, or soon will, for their benefit, their family's, your church's and God's Kingdom's.)
For the rest of us, whether you describe the Men's Group at your church as "small, but solid," "sizable, but stagnant/struggling" or "what Men's Group," we invite you to take full advantage of this opportunity to give your men and ministry leaders the shot in the arm (and maybe the kick in the pants) that we all occasionally need to motivate us, equip us and encourage us to be the husbands, dads, brothers, friends... the guys God calls us to be.
Here are three incredibly simple and effective ways you can help get your men connected:

  1. Promote it on paper, with posters and bulletin inserts
  2. Promote it on your church website with simple graphics and links
  3. Promote it from the pulpit and at your Men's Ministry activities using the press releases or the downloadable videos

As was made dramatically clear in the statistic at the top of this page, you, (the local church), are the key to getting your men to this event which, when it comes right down to it is as it should be because this event exists first and foremost to help you, as a church, build-up your guys into the "mighty men" God intended.

(If we can do anything to help you get the message to your guys, please ask!)

Conduct Follow-up Men's Bible Studies at Your Church

While men will walk away from this event inspired, motivated and with some of the best teachings for men firmly planted in their brains, we all know what challenges await them when they begin a new week on Monday: pressures, distractions, diversions, etc.
That's why we encourage every church to identify and train men capable of effectively leading a 7-week study using the book or begin a discipleship relationship with another man with the materials that they will receive at the conference. This will help the men remember and apply the truths they learned and the tools they obtained as true disciples of Christ.

We provide the rock-solid study materials that are part education, part exploration and part encouragement, but it is one or more of the men from your church leading his brothers from your church at your church (or in a nearby home) that provides the longest-lasting, most meaningful results in transforming your men, their families and your church in the process.
The two items that each man will receive to either use in a group setting or one to one discipleship are:
C.J. Mahaney: The Cross Centered Life, 7 Week study
Men at the Cross: One 2 One Cross Training, 1 year discipleship tool

  Small Group Leaders Training -
Using "Cross Centered Life" Devotional
Thursday January 28th at 8PM and Saturday at 7 AM - New Hope CC

(Full details of and materials for the follow-up studies will be
provided to pastors and ministry leaders at the event)

Make an Upfront Financial Investment in the Event

We have found that when a church makes a financial investment in an event, they make a greater commitment to encouraging their men to attend. It also helps the Conference Planning Committee provide the best possible experience for all the men attending by being able to plan accordingly and cover various expenses in preparation for the Conference.
Three levels of church financial participation are:
  ▪ sponsoring
  ▪ contributing
  ▪ supportive

(To learn more about this aspect of involvement, please click here.)

We fully understand and appreciate that different churches have different levels of both interest and ability to participate in the Men's Conference in this way. We welcome and appreciate any church that wishes to explore this way to be involved in helping put on this event, (as it is truly the result of the efforts and resources of a number of churches). Of course, we also understand and respect if you feel the wisest decision for your church is not to be involved this year from a financial standpoint.

The important thing is that your church is involved!

Be represented on the Conference Leadership Team

We invite any churches that will send at least 15 men to the conference to have a representative on our Leadership Team. We welcome and need help in the planning and administration of this event since it greatly depends on volunteer leadership to make it happen.
